With my work I try to transcend the boundary between the commercial world and that of my own personal experience, influencing the viewer to believe in an idea rather extraordinary or banal. I allow the nature of my mediums to express any tension or desire I feel behind the piece. I derive my work off studying a bridge between Mannerism and the often impressionistic yet figurative works of Francis Bacon while keeping the energy and emotion found in Joseph Clement Coll and Heinrich Kley illustrations.
My background in Graphic Design and the story telling I developed through gestural means in illustration allows me to create a strong structural balance to my work. For me, I find ink to be a very unforgivable medium; it shows confidence and a strong foundation that has been built through vigorously studying anatomical form.
My goal is to create large scale drawings built of ink transcending the gestural qualities found in the human form balancing the materialistic aspect of our everyday surroundings. Make the viewer second guess what they see and manipulate their mind with the subliminal. I want my art to challenge those that surround me to acknowledge the tension they build inside themselves in regards to their moral and deep seeded emotions.
